Important information regarding your privacy at YourWiki:
Each user on YourWiki has a specific IP address, which identifies your computer that you are using. Some IP addresses, if traced can reveal your home address. Your IP address is only visible to other users here at YourWiki if you make a contribution and you are not logged in under your username.
Certain users, called CheckUsers, are trusted individuals who have access to a technical capability that allows them, even though you are a registered user, to see your IP address. These users have signed an agreement to hold all information gained by using the CheckUser function confidential.
A CheckUser may be implicated only under the following circumstances. Please note that a situation may occur that does not fall under these guidelines, and staff may make an exception to this rule, providing reasonable clause.:
- Staff have reason to believe your life is endangered (threats of violence or suicide).
- A user has brought forth concerns of Sockpuppeting, meaning they believe you are using multiple accounts that you have not brought forward for staff attention.
- Sockpuppet accounts are explicitly disallowed at YourWiki. An alternate account for security reasons is allowed if brought forth to staff attention. It is also recommended that you make a notation on the userpage linking that account to yours.
- If a webcrawler/spider is used (e.g. WinHTTrack) without permission of YourWiki.
- If your account has been used for vandalism, a checkuser may be done to also block your IP address preventing account creation.
Any information obtained through a CheckUser check is confidential and may not be released to a second party, unless that party is also a CheckUser.
The staff at YourWiki take privacy matters seriously and will do their best to protect you and your privacy, providing that you follow our guidelines.
In order to ensure your privacy and protection, it is generally recommended that you Create an Account to hide your IP address. Should a situation occur that you failed to log in and your IP address was revealed, any Sysop or Founder is able to delete that contribution from the history of the page, just ask a user to oversight that edit.
If you feel that your privacy has been compromised, please contact a Steward and s/he will take care of the issue immediately.
